Appointments & Services

Booking, rescheduling, calling a clinic or service provider.

What learners practise

Appointment dialogues teach the language of scheduling: days, dates, times, confirmation and polite rebooking. The exercise on this page shows a patient calling a clinic to book a visit and change the original time.

Give the class a calendar grid before listening so they can mark the agreed slot during the second listen. Then ask learners to underline the phrases used to suggest, accept and reschedule. Close with a new phone call between a receptionist and a customer who needs to bring the time forward.

Listening skills and classroom ideas

  • Catch days, dates and times in spoken context, including contractions like I'm free on.
  • Recognise modal forms for politeness: Could we, Would Friday work, How about.
  • Follow the sequence of offering, accepting and rescheduling an appointment.
  • After the task, learners run a new call that ends with a change of time.
