What learners practise

School dialogues let A1 and A2 learners reuse familiar vocabulary in a setting they know. The exercise on this page covers subjects, teachers, classrooms and break-time language.

Pair the listening task with a quick board drawing or a real timetable so learners connect what they hear to a visual reference. First listen: identify the subject. Second listen: collect two more details. Close with a survey where learners ask three classmates about their favourite subject and report the result.

Listening skills and classroom ideas

  • Recognise subject names, days of the week and basic classroom objects.
  • Catch short answers such as My favourite subject is and follow-up question forms.
  • Notice contracted verb forms like I don't like and it's on.
  • After the task, learners survey classmates and present the most popular answer.
