Topic

Restaurants & Food

Ordering food, asking about the menu, paying the bill.

What learners practise

Restaurant dialogues combine food vocabulary, polite requests and a clear transaction. Learners hear ordering, asking about the menu, requesting the bill and choosing a payment method.

Use the audio once to set the scene and once to focus on the ordering sequence. Invite learners to underline each request and answer on the transcript. Finish with a role-play in which each pair sets up a small restaurant with two dishes, two drinks, a question and a payment line.

Listening skills and classroom ideas

  • Follow the sequence of a restaurant visit from arrival to payment.
  • Recognise food and quantity phrases such as a table for two and the bill, please.
  • Catch polite forms of asking, ordering and requesting changes.
  • After checking answers, pairs run a new restaurant scene with three requests.
