Airport & Flights

Check-in, security, boarding, customs, layovers.

What learners practise

Airport dialogues pack a lot of useful English into a short scene: documents, luggage, gate numbers, departure times and a small disruption. The exercise on this page covers a check-in conversation between a passenger and a member of staff.

Run the audio in class with a boarding-pass template on screen so learners can write down the key fields during the second listen. Follow with a quick comprehension check on documents and gate information. Close with a role-play at a check-in desk that includes one request and one small change of plan.

Listening skills and classroom ideas

  • Catch names, flight numbers and destination cities in a fast transaction.
  • Recognise vocabulary for luggage: suitcase, hand luggage, kilos, excess baggage.
  • Notice polite requests and confirmations such as Could I see your passport, please.
  • After the task, pairs cover a new check-in with a seat change and an extra bag.
